Fitness Focus:  Alignment-A body in proper alignment uses the muscles more effectively and efficiently.  Alignment also supports and protects the body through daily movements.

Standing Alignment:  Stand with feet in parallel position, hip width apart.  Press firmly through the entire foot, placing equal pressure throughout the entire foot.  Making sure the knees are over the ankles, place hands on hips.  Pretend your hips are a bucket of water, do not let the water spill out to the front or back…keep hips level.  Pull the navel to spine to help the hips stay level as you squeeze the shoulders back and down, lifting the chest.  Imagine you are holding a pencil between your shoulder blades.  Stand tall and visualize a string running through the crown of your head to your tail bone.  Now, gently pull the string, lenthening out the spine and back of the neck–lengthening through the crown of the head.  This is proper alignment, neutral spine!

Faith Focus:  Proper alignment in our spiritual lives will enable us to move through life protected and supported.  As you work on your physical alignment today, think of the protection and support provided when you are standing firm in God’s armor:

“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist (hips level), with the breastplate of righteousness in place (chest lifted), and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace (feet evenly pressed into floor). In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith (shoulders back and down), with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation (crown of the head) and the sword of the Spirit (lenthening like the Sword), which is the word of God.” –Ephesians 6:14-17
