FITNESS FOCUS: Movement One of the hardest things about starting any new fitness routine is actually STARTING it! Once you have become aware of your body’s needs, aligned yourself properly, and engaged the core with the breath, the next step is to GET MOVING!!! We start today with a great warm-up exercise: The Standing Roll Down
Start in standing neutral spine-alignment. Begin breathing deep into the ribcage with the Pilates breath. Lengthen through the crown of the head, shoulders back and down, hips level, feet in parallel. Inhale, and on the exhale bring your chin to your chest, navel to spine as you begin rolling down one vertebrae at a time. Only go as far as you can without feeling strain in your neck, back, or hamstrings (although we are trying to stretch these areas!!) At the bottom of the movement, inhale, and on the exhale, engage the glutes and inner thighs as you begin to roll up, one vertebrae at a time. End in the Standing Alignment/neutral spine position: lengthened through the crown of the head, shoulders back and down, hips level, navel pulled to spine.
FAITH FOCUS: Even after we become aware of God’s will for us and seek to align ourselves to it, sometimes it is difficult to START MOVING in God’s Will. However, God wants us to do just that! He has breathed His Breath of Life into us so that we will GET MOVING in His Will.
Acts 17: 24-28 states, “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth….And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else….. and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being.”
God created this world, He created you, He has plans and purposes for you…all you need to do is engage your CORE with His Breath, stretch and reach out for Him, and “Get Moving!”
