Today’s COREconnection: 6/28/2010

FITNESS FOCUS:  Balance  a result of proper alignment, posture, core strength and flexibility.  However, we must practice balance in order to achieve and maintain it.  Here is a warm up exercise that increases the blood flow in the body improving  flexibility and ultimately, balance.

Toe Heel Rock:    Stand tall in Standing Neutral Spine properly aligning the body.  (See COREbasics description if needed.)  Lengthen through the crown of the head, shoulders back and down, hips level.  Press evenly through the feet.  Inhale, and as you exhale, lift through the crown of the head and  rock up onto the balls of your feet.  Inhale, and on the exhale, slowly lower back down rocking back on your heels. Keep your body tall and in line, only moving your feet and ankles.  Repeat several times.

FAITH FOCUS:  Balance  in our spiritual lives helps keep us in alignment with God’s purpose for us.  We must keep our feet balanced on His path for us by increasing the flow of His Holy Spirit through us as we seek the flexibility to move in His will.    As you move through your balance exercise today, ask God to assess your footing, your steps…Are you moving in His balanced path today?

Doth not he [God] see my ways, and count all my steps? If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;  Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.”  Job 31: 4-6
