COREconnection: THANKSGIVING Exercises

FITNESS FOCUS:  In an attempt to be topical, I wanted to do a blog post about Thanksgiving and Exercise. So, like any person wanting to find information about something, I “googled” those topics.  I was bombarded with links to websites about how to “cut calories by 1/3” or “walk off the wobble after you gobble”, “tips on avoiding the ‘temptations’ at the table” …etc. etc., you get the point.  There was even one site giving exercises to do in between courses during the Thanksgiving gathering!    Although I had intended to find helpful exercise tips to motivate and encourage you through the holiday, I found myself in quite the opposite circumstance.   Most of these websites didn’t encourage, they seemed to invoke negative emotions (like fear, for example that if you didn’t cut the calories, walk off the wobble, avoid table temptation, or exercise between bites of food, it would have negative consequences).   So, for the fitness focus on this Thanksgiving weekend, sure, I would encourage you to get up and move periodically, go for a walk with a visiting family member, play a game of touch football with the kiddos, take your dog to the park, but most of all, exercise thankfulness-period.

FAITH FOCUS:  Exercising Thankfulness:  As I was searching for my Thanksgiving exercises, amid all of the workout tips, diet strategies, etc., I came across some Thanksgiving Exercises that seemed to keep in mind the spirit of the holiday.  If you would like to exercise your thankfulness, check out these exercises:

Here are some Thanksgiving Bible Verses that remind us of the gift of our strong CORE in CHRIST:

Psalm 30:11 You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,

Colossians 2:6-7 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness

And finally, some other quotes about Thankfulness:

Strength, rest, guidance, grace, help, sympathy, love – all from God to us!! What a list of blessings! –E. Stenbock

The best things are nearest: breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of God just before you. –Robert Louis Stevenson

A thankful heart is one of the primary identifying characteristics of a believer. It stands in stark contrast to pride, selfishness, and worry. And it helps fortify the believer’s trust in the Lord and reliance of His provision, even in the toughest times. No matter how choppy the seas become, a believer’s heart is buoyed by constant praise and gratefulness to the Lord–John MacArthur

With Thanksgiving and Gratitude to God for each one of you–
