COREconnection: Awareness leads to Alignment

FITNESS FOCUS:  Body Awareness and Alignment of the Spine

 According to an article in Pilates Trends, “… Pilates exercises teach awareness of neutral alignment of the spine and strengthening the deep postural muscles that support this alignment.” In other words, awareness of proper spinal alignment is necessary before the work of staying in alignment can begin.  If you don’t know what to expect of your body, you can’t build the muscles required to meet these expectations.  To find out more about body awareness and how it leads to better alignment of the spine, click on the link below:

FAITH FOCUS:  Awareness of faith and Alignment of will

In order for us to be in alignment with God’s will for our lives, we need to be aware of our faith, of God’s love for us, and His plan for our lives.  How do we go about gaining this awareness and alignment?  Awareness begins at the CORE!  We must go to God’s Word to become aware of  God’s promises revealed to us through scripture, His plan for our lives and His purpose for us here on Earth.  Only when we gain this wisdom and understanding of the path He has for us can we truly walk in alignment with it.  Lynne Chapman in an article entitled, “Mary of Nazareth the Mother of Jesus” (Bella Online) suggests that Mary’s awareness of Scripture that equipped her to be obedient to God’s call on her life.  To read more about how Mary’s awareness led to her alignment with God’s will, click on the link to the article here:http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art6934.asp.

Proverbs 4 illustrates how awareness can lead to alignment:

 20 My son, pay attention to what I say;
   turn your ear to my words.
21 Do not let them out of your sight,
   keep them within your heart;
22 for they are life to those who find them
   and health to one’s whole body.
23 Above all else, guard your heart,
   for everything you do flows from it.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead;
   fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet
   and be steadfast in all your ways.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left;

Verses 20-21 point to the importance of awareness.  The “heart” or center/core of the body is mentioned in verse 23 along with the concept of everything “flowing” from the center.  The last 3 verses talk about the alignment that is possible when you are aware and centered, moving with flow from your heart.

With the awareness of God’s Ways and His Word, we are better equipped to stand tall and upright, focused on the path ahead, level and controlled, centered in alignment with His Will.
