COREconnection: Can Breath Prayers Improve Your Health?

In his book, Ni writes that the average woman has 60,000 thoughts a day and that 80 percent of those thoughts are negative. Ouch. And negative thoughts are bad news for the body, since stress causes wear and tear on many physical health systems. But Ni recommends offsetting that stress by repeating calming, soothing positive affirmations to ourselves because the thoughts that bubble up from our consciousness affect our health, just as our diets and exercise habits do. Positive thoughts feed the body nourishing mental energy.”  (excerpt from article on realage.com ‘Repeat this Phrase to Undo Stressful Thoughts’)

“Positive thoughts feed the body nourishing mental energy.”  Hmm, interesting.  I wonder what would happen if we fed our Spiritual body with the nourishing energy of God’s Word through the practice of Breath Prayer?  I think it is definitely something we should consider.  Not only could breath prayers help us as we seek to improve our spiritual health, but using God’s Word to remind us of His love for us can be just the “positive thought” our bodies need to improve our physical health as well!

Below is a link to an article written by Bill Gaultiere, a pastor, psychologist and founder of  SOUL SHEPHARDING, a ministry dedicated to helping “people to connect honestly and deeply with Christ in ways that facilitate soul transformation.”   In this article, he not only gives a history and background for the Breath Prayer, but also gives many techniques for creating your own breath prayer style.  He discusses many types of breath prayer and the benefits of regular breath prayer practice.  Please click on the link below to check it out and let me know what you think!

  1. I enjoyed the article on Breaht prayers by Bill Gaultiere. I will begin to incorporate this “new- to me” way of praying into my life and expect to be blessed in fresh new ways. I’ll keep you posted as we go.
