COREministries was founded on the principle that God loves us enough to care about our bodies and how we care for them. As a person who struggled with an eating disorder, compulsive exercising and many disordered eating behaviors, I know what it is like to be constantly dissatisfied with what the mirror or the scale “said” about my body. My obsession with trying to have the perfect body led me down a path toward destruction and away from my Heavenly Father. Over the course of my recovery, I began to see that our physical bodies are a gift from God and they should be cared for accordingly. Learning how to balance PROPER exercise, eating habits, and maintain a healthy perspective about my physical body has required that I become CENTERED on Christ as the CORE of my faith, my purpose, and God’s Will for my life. As I have become more involved with mentoring others about their own issues regarding Nutrition, Exercise and Body Image, am aware of this pervasive view that our culture has that we are at war with our bodies, food is the enemy, and exercise is a weapon that we must use to have our bodies conform to society’s ideal.
But God’s Word says this:
A Living Sacrifice
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
We spend so much time trying to conform to the patterns/ideals of THIS world with our bodies instead of working to maintain them as LIVING SACRIFICES which are HOLY and PLEASING to God.
Now, many of us are AWARE of this passage from scripture, but in our innermost being are we CENTERED on it, ALIGNED to it? In the article below, the author states, “How a young woman feels about herself affects her CORE feelings of purpose, image, and worth.” She candidly exposes the secret lies that many women tell themselves about their bodies as she shed’s God’s truth through His Word about His wonderful creation-US!
