Warning: Dieting Increases Your Risk of Gaining MORE Weight (An Update) | Intuitive Eating

I thought this was a well-written article that explains why DIETING DOESN’T WORK!  In the article, the author states, “No diet or meal plan could possibly “know” your hunger and fullness levels, or what satisfies you.  Only you know your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.”

Yes, no diet or meal plan can know when you are hungry and when you are full.  They can not fulfill the promise that following these diet plans will “satisfy” you.  Why?  As a Christian, I know that I am NOT the only one who knows my thoughts, feelings, and experiences–God knows ALL of this about me.  He even knows this before I do!  And He, alone, is the only One who can empty us of the things that do NOT truly fulfill our needs/desires so that HE can give us the only thing that can FILL us– and in HIM we are finally SATISFIED!

What I think is great about this article is that it calls for us to focus on that inner voice, the intuition, that our body uses to tell us when we need to be nourished and when we have had enough nourishment.   As believers, we also have an inner voice that tells us when we are hungry for soul nourishment…but it will never tell us we have had enough!  The Holy Spirit will constantly call for more nourishment, more Daily Bread, more Living Water!  Unlike our physical hunger which can be satisfied and quenched, our Spiritual hunger is always seeking to be filled, and filled again.  We have times when we feel full-after church, a retreat, our quiet time.  But as we allow this fullness to overflow into our lives and the people around us, we see that the need for more filling is ever-present and His desire to fill us is everlasting!

Blessed are you who hunger now,    for you will be satisfied.  (Luke 6:20)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,    for they will be filled.  (Matthew 5:6)

Therefore, “they are before the throne of God    and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.  Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. …For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” (Revelation 7: 15-17)
‘say to the captives, ‘Come out,’  and to those in darkness, ‘Be free!’ “They will feed beside the roads    and find pasture on every barren hill. They will neither hunger nor thirst, nor will the desert heat or the sun beat upon them. He who has compassion on them will guide them and lead them beside springs of water. (Isaiah 49:-11)

  1. I so love the Truth of God that sets us free from the laws of mankind. During the past years, God has so clearly spoken to me as I inquired of Him concerning the diet industry. I do believe in supplementing with a real supplement, but I also believe in eating healthy foods and exercising, but all of these “programs” become anointed for us when done through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. How free we are when we are operating in the freedom of Christ rather than a “diet”.

I love your reminder that only the Holy Spirit can speak to each individual as God is the only One Who really knows our individual needs. That is what I share with those who are struggling with past failures. There is never failure for a person who is being obedient to God’s will and specific direction for them.

Thanks for your posts. I’m new to this arena and appreciate comments as you are led by God.
