‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ Acts 17:28
If we have any doubts as to whether or not God cares about how we treat our bodies, the focus verse for today can point to the truth that he does! We may go through our daily activities, including our exercise habits, thinking nothing about what these things have to do with our faith. However, I believe that these two things- our daily movements and our faith–have much to do with each other. (At least they should.) The Bible also tells us that ALL we do we should do for God’s glory.
“Whatever you say or do should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks to God the Father because of him.” Colossians 3:17
It can be easy to separate the practice of our Faith with our practice of our Fitness. Gyms typically do not foster an environment for seeking FIRST the Kingdom of Heaven. They are more focused on building bodies than strengthening THE Body.
This is one of the reasons COREministries began….to provide connection between faith and fitness and to provide exercise experiences that can unite the two.
A great technique to get you started is called “Body Prayer”. In a nutshell, it is moving the body while praying God’s word! Here is a devotion from Upper Room that describes this in more detail:
